In-Car Driving Lesson Curriculum
Practical behind-the-wheel training · 10 core skills
Lesson 01
Basic Vehicle Control
Smooth steering, gradual acceleration, controlled braking. The car should feel like an extension of the driver, not a wild animal.
Lesson 02
Proper Turns (Left & Right)
Correct lane positioning, slowing before the turn, checking blind spots, and finishing in the proper lane. Fixes wide-turn mistakes.
Lesson 03
Lane Changes with Confidence
Mirror check → signal → blind spot check → smooth movement. In Ontario traffic, blind spots are where surprises live.
Lesson 04
Understanding Right-of-Way Rules
4-way stops, uncontrolled intersections, pedestrian crossings. Structured practice reduces hesitation.
Lesson 05
Intersection Awareness
Judging gaps in traffic, recognizing stale green lights, knowing when to proceed or wait. Intersections are where most collisions happen.
Lesson 06
Parallel Parking
Controlled reverse steering using reference points. Not just pass-the-test parking — actual usable skill for real streets.
Lesson 07
Reverse & Angle Parking
Mall lots, plaza entrances, school areas — practical daily scenarios. Reverse parking builds spatial awareness.
Lesson 08
Speed Control & Following Distance
Maintaining safe distance (2–3 seconds minimum). Adjusting for rain, snow, and ice — Ontario winters are not forgiving.
Lesson 09
Defensive Driving Awareness
Anticipating others' mistakes. Watching parked car wheels. Reading traffic flow. Driving like everyone else might do something unpredictable.
Lesson 10
Basic Highway Introduction
Merging safely, maintaining lane position at speed, safe exits. Initial exposure to the 400-series to build real confidence.
