Springwater Township covers a large, mostly rural area north and west of Barrie — from Minesing and Anten Mills to Elmvale, Hillsdale and Orr Lake. Learning to drive here means learning country roads: higher speeds, gravel shoulders, farm equipment, wildlife and plenty of snow.

🛣️ Roads we practise on
Rural roads need different skills than city streets. We practise on Highway 26, Highway 93 through Hillsdale, Horseshoe Valley Road and the township’s county roads — learning safe passing, how to share the road with tractors and trucks, how to watch for deer, and how to handle gravel and snow. Because your road test will be in Barrie, we also practise in city traffic, and G-licence students drive on Highway 400.

Springwater students usually take their G2 and G road tests at the Barrie DriveTest Centre. City traffic can feel very different from rural roads, so we make sure you are comfortable driving in Barrie — including the roads around the test centre — before test day. You can use the instructor’s car for your road test.
📝 How the BDE course works
- Register and pay your deposit — we send you the Online Driver’s Education course within 30 minutes.
- Finish the online course at your own pace before your in-car lessons begin.
- Take your one-on-one in-car lessons with free pick-up and drop-off in Springwater.
- We process your MTO certificate — you can be G2-eligible after 8 months instead of 12.
❓ Do you pick up in Elmvale, Minesing and Hillsdale?
Yes. Pick-up and drop-off are free across Springwater Township, including Elmvale, Minesing, Anten Mills, Hillsdale, Phelpston, Snow Valley, Orr Lake and Midhurst.
❓ Where do Springwater students take their road test?
Usually at the Barrie DriveTest Centre, 520 Bryne Drive, Unit 7. Tests are booked through DriveTest (drivetest.ca), and we can help with booking on request.
❓ Do you teach rural and winter driving?
Yes. Rural driving skills — passing safely, gravel roads, farm equipment, wildlife — are part of lessons in Springwater, and we offer a Winter Driving Improvement Program for snow and ice.
❓ Why is the Springwater price different from Barrie?
Springwater pricing includes the extra travel time to reach you, so pick-up and drop-off stay free. All prices include HST and the MTO certificate fee.
❓ How much sooner can I get my G2 with the BDE course?
With an MTO-approved BDE certificate, you can take your G2 road test after 8 months with your G1 instead of 12 months, and you may qualify for an insurance discount.
